Patricia Ann Coats

OLEAN — Patricia Ann Coats, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Eden Heights Assisted Living in Olean.

Born Aug. 30, 1941, in Lackawanna, she was the daughter of Stephen and Catherine Pentek Cheman. On June 30, 1984, in Otto, she married Quentin Coats, who predeceased her in August, 1996.

Patricia was a nurse’s aide for many years for Cattaraugus County Home Healthcare, caring for those in Portville, Olean and Allegany.

She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Bonaventure Church, having volunteered for Bonafest and The Bridge. She would also spend time volunteering for Hospice of Olean.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, attended antique car shows, and found joy in collecting dolls as well as loving everything Elvis.

She is survived by a daughter, Catherine (Paul) Hodnett of Fremont, Calif.; two sons, Steven Carney of Frewsburg and John Carney of Napoli; grandchildren, Steven Carney, Cale Carney, Reed Carney, Samuel Hodnett and Hannah Hodnett; two brothers, Richard (Jean) Cheman of Hamburg and Kenneth (Joann) Cheman of Eden; a sister-in-law, Mary Cheman of Kalispell, Mont.; and an aunt, Mary Lou Ellingsen of Delaware.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Quentin Coats and Frederick Bayer Carney; a brother, Stephen Cheman; an uncle, John Pentek; an aunt, Omelia “Honey” Ostervik; and dearest companion, Elmer Blush.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday (July 31, 2025) at St. Bonaventure Church, 95 E. Main St., Allegany. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 am. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the St. Bonaventure Church or Homecare and Hospice, 115 E Main St., Allegany, NY 14706.
