State & Union: Donna Miller a member of OHS Class of ’45
Our June 25 edition of State & Union focused on Kathleen Hannon Morton after she marked the 80th year since her graduation from Olean High School. The 97-year-old, known as Kitty, wondered if she might be the sole survivor of her OHS Class of 1945.
Well, we can say that she is not alone — Donna Watters Miller, who attended grade and middle school in a one-room schoolhouse at Rock City, is also a member of the OHS Class of ’45 and living in Tavares, Fla.
Responding to the query about surviving members, Mrs. Miller’s daughter, Michelle De Ritter, wrote to State & Union: “I’m happy to report that my mother is doing well at 98 next month.”
Michelle relates to us that Donna Watters arrived at OHS in Sept 1941 after eight years in a one-room schoolhouse on Rock City.
“At OHS, Donna was very active in music, playing piano for assembly programs and string bass in the high school orchestra,” her daughter writes. “Following graduation in 1945, Donna worked at AE Ewing Co. until her marriage in 1950 to William Miller. Donna’s two daughters, Michelle (Paul) De Ritter and Pamela (John Kenney) Miller arrived by 1955, at which time Donna became town clerk of Hinsdale, a position she held for 32 years.”
