    Welcoming Franklinville as sectional champions

HAMBURG — The Franklinville baseball team completed their journey for a Section 6 Class D title with a dominant 6-1 win over Brocton on Saturday.

“Great feeling, really happy for our players,” Franklinville coach Reed Mitrowski said. “We’ve got a lot of guys who have been on the team since eighth grade and have been to a couple, and it didn’t go the way it did today.”

Franklinville got ahead right away with a two-RBI double from Isaac Towne, who finished with four RBIs. “We got off to a quick start,” Mitrowski said. “We got guys on in the first inning. We got a timely hit to give us the lead, that just sets you up, gives your pitcher confidence.”

Bretton Blecha pitched as well as you could ask for, a complete game with one hit, four walks and five strikeouts.

“Our pitching was fantastic today,” Mitrowski said. “Blecha was on today, he gave up a hit to the leadoff batter, and nothing else for six more innings.”

Franklinville had nine total hits with seven walks, Towne and Matthew Spittler got two hits apiece.

After a run was walked in during the third inning, Towne extended the lead to 5-0 with a line drive to left field to get two more RBIs.

“Super proud of him,” Mitrowski said. “Very, very hard worker. Team first guy. Today in the biggest spot came up with two very, very important hits to score those four runs. Which was a huge difference maker, maybe the two biggest hits of the game. Impressed with the way he hit in the clutch. It was huge for confidence for all of the guys.”

Franklinville just needed to keep Brocton from getting hot, which they did with only a run allowed to clinch the Section 6 Championship.

“Be happy, enjoy the win,” Mitrowski said. “They earned it, they worked for it.”

Franklinville will play a regional final against Fillmore at noon on Saturday against Section 5 champion Fillmore in Geneva.

“To get to the next round is an honor,” Mitrowski said. “You don’t want to be satisfied with what we did today, some areas we have to clean up for sure. You don’t want to be satisfied and not be complacent.”
