EMPORIUM, Pa. — If you happen to turn on Sports Center’s Top Plays sometime this afternoon, there’s a decent chance this play will be on there.
After all, the first thing the folks at Cameron County did after the game was send the video footage to ESPN’s people.
Because it was just that rare. And just that amazing.
In a tightly-contested battle throughout, the Red Raiders edged Ridgway, 44-43 in a Big 30 boys’ basketball match-up on Monday night.
But it’s the ending, the very final play, of the game that everyone inside that gymnasium will forever remember.
Here’s how it went down:
With three seconds remaining and his team down 43-41, Cameron County’s Nate Sestina grabbed a rebound off a missed front-end of a 1-on-1 and flipped the ball to teammate Dylan Clingan.
Clingan, standing near the baseline — some 85 feet from the basket — heaved the ball one-handed over his shoulder towards the rim. And as the buzzer sounded ... the ball splashed through the net.
And just like that. Game.
