Bradford accident

Emergency personnel work at the scene of an accident that claimed the life of an 84-year-old Bradford, PA., woman Wednesday evening on Derrick Road in Foster Township.

FOSTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Bradford woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident at 8 p.m. Wednesday in front of 189 Derrick Road, officials report.

Reports state that the accident occurred when a vehicle operated by Olive J. Hillard, 84, of 12 Long Lane, Bradford, hit a tree and flipped onto its side. Reports state that due to the severity of the damage, it took about 50 minutes for emergency crews to extricate Mrs. Hillard from the wreckage.

Officials said a dog in the vehicle survived the accident.

The Limestone (N.Y.) Volunteer Fire Department set up a landing zone for a medical helicopter for the patient, but she was instead transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center because of complications. McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill said Mrs. Hillard later died of blunt-force trauma.

The Otto Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control, and Bradford Township volunteer firefighters provided mutual aid to the Derrick City department for the rescue. Crews were on the scene for about two hours.

The road was closed for a short time during the extrication, officials said.
