It’s the first week of December and the holiday-related activities are really packing the calendar, with several events slated through the weekend.
Today there is a Tree Lighting, Cookies and a Book With Santa event, 5:15 to 7:30 a.m., in the main lobby/registration area of Olean General Hospital. The tree lighting will be outside the main entrance and feature entertainment provided by students of the Olean High School Choir and the Neighborhood School of Dance — with a special visit by Santa Claus.
It should be noted that space is limited and the hospital had asked for registrations online by Nov. 30. Call 375-7377 for further information.
On Wednesday, the Victorian Christmas kicks off at the Olean Bartlett House, 302 Laurens St., which is open to 5 p.m. Visit the more than 30 trees decorated in holiday fashion on the first and second floors of the house. Subsequent open houses are on Friday and then Dec. 12, 14, 19 and 21.
On Thursday, Olean First Baptist Church will host the Southern Tier Recovery Activities Without Walls Gift Making Fair, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Several local agencies will be set up for participants to make holiday gifts and crafts. There is no admission charge, but a charitable donation of a winter hat or mittens will be welcomed. For information, contact Darcy Dwaileebe, STRAWW program manager, at 253-4585 or Tiffany Whipple, youth program manager, at 260-3215.
Also Thursday, a Crochet, Knitting & Crafting Group Holiday Social is set for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Olean Public Library.
On Friday, the Olean Center Mall will host a Visit With Santa and Pet Photo Day from 3 to 8 p.m. — Santa will also be at the mall several times during the season.
Also in the mall, the SPCA Christmas Store will be open Friday and through the weekend.
Also Friday evening, “A Music City Christmas” featuring Jason Coleman and Meagan Taylor is at 7:30 in the Regina A. Quick Center for Arts at St. Bonaventure University. For ticket information, call 375-2494 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Saturday at 2 p.m., the Olean High School Choir will sing Christmas carols at the Olean Bartlett House, while the Neighborhood School of Dance will host the annual Christmas Dance Performance from 2 to 3 p.m. at Olean High School.
Finally, if you like ugly Christmas sweaters, Four Mile Brewing Co. on East Greene Street is the place to be: It’s the site of the Ugly Sweater Pub Run, a run/jog/walk through Olean in your favorite, ugliest Christmas sweater.
