PORTVILLE — Minor injuries were reported after a three-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Route 417 and Butternut Brook Road early Wednesday afternoon.
The identities of the people involved have not yet been released.
Deputy Chris Ellman of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Olean’s Mercy Flight was originally called to the scene, but authorities later determined the helicopter evacuation was not necessary.
The emergency call went out at 12:11 p.m. and Deputy Ellman said he arrived roughly 10 minutes later. Also responding were the Portville and Weston’s Mills volunteer fire departments, he noted.
Two of the drivers were transported via ambulance to Olean General Hospital for treatment. Deputy Ellman couldn’t speak to the extent of their injuries, except to say they were not life-threatening.
The third driver was released at the scene with a small laceration above the eye.
The wooden rear-end of the truck involved in the collision was destroyed, leaving pieces of strewn about Route 417. The other two cars reportedly sustained minor body damage.
“One vehicle was rear-ended, (and) spun the truck around into the red car,” Deputy Ellman said, adding the details of the crash are still under investigation. “They all just collided together.”
More information will be released at a later time, the deputy said.
