Cattaraugus County Republicans will join others across New York today for the state’s Republican presidential primary.
The polls will be open in all 50 election districts in the county from noon to 9 p.m. today. Anyone with questions about polling places should contact the Board of Elections at 938-9111. Olean’s polling places are unchanged from last year.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, is expected to win New York state, particularly in light of the recent pullout by former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
However, Sen. Santorum’s name will still appear on the primary ballot. In addition, the names of the other candidates remaining in the race, Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul, will also be on the ballot.
Cattaraugus County Republican party Chairman Paula Snyder of Olean said the county Republican Committee did not endorse a candidate in the presidential primary, although she personally favors Gov. Romney.
Mrs. Snyder agreed there was not as much excitement connected to the primary with the Republican presidential race all but over. She wondered if it wasn’t time to move up New York’s primary to give the state more influence in choosing a presidential nominee.
