OLEAN — It’s all systems go for one of the city’s oldest holiday traditions.
The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) will hold its annual Santa Claus Lane parade in downtown Olean Friday evening.
“Right now, we have 52 floats signed up,” said Meme Yantesko, chief operations officer at the chamber. “We typically average around 40 floats ... and last year we had 42. This year, we had about 10 to 12 newcomers, so it’s great to see the interest new people have in being part of the parade.”
Earlier this week, chamber officials flipped on Santa Claus Lane’s holiday lights, most of which are in Lincoln Park.
“Everything turned on without a problem,” Mrs. Yanetsko said. “There were a few bulbs here or there that were burned out, but it wasn’t anything we couldn’t replace.”
North Union Street will close to traffic at 6 p.m. The city’s downtown parking lots will be opened. The city building’s restrooms will be opened the night of the parade from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
