OLEAN —The Warming House’s new home at 164 N. Union St. is finally permanent.
On Monday evening, The Warming House received affirmation that its presence on one of Olean’s main thoroughfares is not a disruption, as the city’s Planning Board members unanimously approved the soup kitchen to stay at its current location. The vote placed no conditions on St. Bonaventure University’s student-run soup kitchen’s continued operations.
For Larry Sorokes, the university’s associate vice president for Franciscan Mission, the board’s decision marks the end of uncertain times for the soup kitchen.
“This is a huge relief for us,” Mr. Sorokes said. “We’re very happy with the Planning Board’s decision — we think they made the right decision … and we’ve certainly been more than in compliance with everything they’ve asked us to do.”
