Although it’s been 40 years ago today that Carol Ann Fitzmaurice was murdered in her rural Allegany home, this unsolved case still remains an open investigation by New York State Police.
The 23-year-old housewife, who was stabbed 14 times in her home at the corner of West Five Mile and Chapin roads, was discovered at 6 o’clock that evening in 1970 by her now-late husband, Daniel, who returned from work in Jamestown.
