GALE WATCH

URGENT - MARINE WEATHER MESSAGE

National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac MI

418 AM EST Mon Feb 11 2019

...HIGH-END GALES TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY ACROSS LAKE HURON WITH

STORM FORCE WINDS POSSIBLE NORTHERN LAKE HURON...

.A Storm Watch is now in effect for late tonight through

Tuesday evening for northern Lake Huron, with Gale Warnings in

effect for the remainder of the lake. Strong easterly flow

expected to develop ahead of a strong low pressure system as it

moves into the western Great Lakes. As this system approaches,

high pressure remains anchored over Quebec and sets up a sharp

pressure gradient between systems. The resulting easterly flow

gradually increases through the day before reaching gales Monday

evening. Cold air and long easterly fetch over the remaining open

water of Lake Huron sets up a high event probability and potential

for high end gales as the low pressure center deepens through

Tuesday, with the possibility for winds to reach storm force. The

system then moves into southern Lake Huron late Tuesday night

bringing a short break over marine areas followed by a chance of

northwest gales developing as the system exits the region during

Wednesday.
