As a senior citizen, I feel compelled to respond to comments made by Olean Board of Education member Paul Kneiser in the Feb. 6 edition of the Olean Times Herald. He said the state was more willing to take resources away from schools and children’s education, rather than from programs that benefit senior citizens.

Senior citizens do not want to see their hard-earned money being wasted on programs that do nothing to prepare students for the real world.

Most of the money raised by increased taxes each year does not go to the “kids.” The teachers’ unions seem to be more concerned with protecting incompetent teachers and securing more benefits for their members than improving the education of our children.
