SALAMANCA - The principal of Seneca Elementary School has been placed on administrative leave and an interim principal named by the Salamanca Central School District Board of Education Tuesday.

Charles “Chuck” Crist was removed from his position as principal on Thursday for unspecified reasons. Doug Hay, superintendent of the district, confirmed Mr. Crist’s removal Tuesday.

“On Thursday, I placed Mr. Crist on administrative leave,” Mr. Hay said. “He was placed on leave in the mid-morning hours.”

Details of why Mr. Crist was removed were not given in accordance with the district’s policy regarding personnel matters.

The length of Mr. Crist’s leave is unspecified, Mr. Hay said.

Mr. Crist served as the Seneca Elementary School principal since 2001. Prior to that, he worked as principal of Salamanca High School.

While Mr. Crist is on leave, district officials will look into the circumstances surrounding his removal.

“We are conducting an internal investigation having to do with this personnel issue,” Mr. Hay said, declining to comment further on the matter.

Mr. Crist could not be reached for comment.

On Tuesday during a special meeting, board members voted unanimously in favor of Jean Pascarella as the interim principal at a salary of $300 a day until someone can fill the position permanently.

" anyone working on the publics dollars has no right to have the reasons being hidden from the public of their misgivings(personal or not) and to pay another employee $300 a day on the backs of people that don't make even half that a day is another slap in the face. nothing but a bunch of overpaid babysitters doing whatever they feel like using public tax dollars "

" I agree with outraged, This matter whatever it is should be brought out into the open if it involes a childs school we as parents have the right to know what our children are being subjected to. After all the last teachers misgivings were also personal ,but that was aired as soon as possible. I dont make 300 bucks a week let alone a DAY!!!!!! "

" I am not concerned for $ or politics. Can we at least be informed if a child was involved. My 10 yar old attends that school- should i be concerned if something may have happened to her? "
