OLEAN - It took two overtime periods, an overtime shootout, and a sudden-death overtime shootout, but the JCC-Olean women’s soccer team put itself in the record book on Saturday.

On a rainy afternoon, the Jaguars etched their name into the history annals with their first-ever playoff win when they outlasted Onondaga Community College in a first-round Region III Division III game played at the Olean Middle School field..

Regulation play and the two 10-minute overtime periods ended with the game tied 2-2. Both teams were then successful on three of five kicks during a third overtime period before the Jags’ Christina Baldwin ended the marathon with a game-winning goal in a sudden-death overtime shootout.

It was the first-ever home playoff game and playoff win for the third-year program.

“This is a giant step for us,” said JCC-Olean coach Ryan Deppa. “The girls knew that going in. It was a lot like our first-year team playing in their first game ... they knew they had a chance to make history.”

The Jaguars, now 11-5-1 and who were seeded eighth, played No. 9 OCC to a 1-1 tie in Syracuse during the regular season. Yesterday, the visitors led 1-0 and then 2-1 before the Jaguars’ Carly Olds scored the game-tying goal with 18:00 left to play. Olds, a freshman from Andover, had also scored JCC-Olean’s first goal. Both were unassisted.

“This was how you would think a playoff game should be,” Deppa said. “Close scored, back-and-forth, very physical. Both teams had players dragging at the end and both had players fighting to the end.”

In sudden-death overtime, Baldwin (Bolivar-Richburg) struck a solid shot into the upper right corner to give the Jaguars the win and start the celebration.

Meanwhile, goalie Brittany Rounds recorded sevens saves for the Jaguars while Amy Laurion had four for OCC (5-11-1).

With the win, JCC-Olean advanced to the Bracket ‘A’ semifinals at top-seeded Herkimer CC (15-4) on Tuesday.

“They’re very good,” Deppa said. “They’re ranked fourth in the nation right now but were No. 1 for most of the year.
