WELLSVILLE - The worker who died during an industrial accident at Alstom Air Preheater Co. Tuesday was a 29-year-old Wellsville resident.

Eric Lehman suffered fatal injuries when a five-ton steel apparatus he was working on fell from its support stands and landed on him at about 10:57 a.m., according to State Police.

Allegany County Coroner Ted Crowell responded to the scene and took the victim’s body to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will conduct an independent investigation, troopers said.

In a statement from the company, officials said, “First and foremost, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the worker killed in this tragic accident.

“We have initiated a prompt investigation to ensure that we determine the cause of this accident as the safety and security of the workers at our sites is something upon which we place the utmost importance. In addition, we will cooperate fully with OSHA and any other authorities.”

Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance assisted at the scene.
