Ingalls, B-R earn sectional championship date
KEUKA PARK - You can add Naples Central School to the list of softball teams that won’t lose any sleep when Bolivar-Richburg pitching ace Jordan Ingalls graduates later this month.
On Saturday afternoon, the Youngstown State-bound Ingalls struck out 10 batters, walked none and scattered four hits to key the third-seeded Wolverines to an 11-1 victory over Naples in a Section 5 Class C semifinal clash.
Offensively, Ingalls led a 13-hit attack with two hits ... a leadoff triple and a home run ... and three RBI as B-R (23-3) knocked Naples out of the tournament for the fourth year in a row.
“The first time we face them in the tournament was Jordan’s freshman year,” said Wolverines coach Stan Harris. “They had a two-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh and we won, 7-6.
“Two years ago, we beat them, 2-0, and last year, the score was 11-0.
On Saturday, B-R pounded out seven extra-base hits.
Amanda McDonald went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI, Aimee Sisson went 2-for-5 with a home run and Courtney Wight went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
The victory lifts the Wolverines into Tuesday’s title game against top-seeded Warsaw at a site and time to be determined. It is their fifth straight appearance in a sectional championship game.
Last year, Warsaw ended B-R bid to repeat as the New York State Class C champion by winning the championship game, 2-1.
Jess Herbst hit an RBI-double for Naples (17-3) in the first inning.
“I’m very pleased,” said Harris. “Jordan pitched well. We hit the ball extremely well and, on defense, we had no errors.”
CLASS DD
Fillmore 7, Prattsburgh 4
FILLMORE - Susie Black collected two hits and two RBI, Jennifer Stevens added two hits and Halee Potter laced an RBI-single to lift No. 2 Fillmore (18-5) into Tuesday’s Class DD semifinal round against No. 3 Avoca.
Allison Richter got the win in relief, striking out nine and allowing one hit over the last four innings.
“This was not our best effort,” said Fillmore coach Bill Nolan. “We did just enough good things to win the game.”
Claire Campbell hit an RBI-single for Prattsburgh.
Elba 15, Genesee Valley 0
ELBA - Sarah Schwartzmeyer struck out six batters and walked none en route to a one-hitter to key top-seeded Elba.
Schwartzmeyer also collected two hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs for the Lancers (18-3).
Kistin Kelley hit a first-inning single for No. 8 Genesee Valley (7-13), which committed seven errors.
Desi Lyman struck out 10 and scattered four hits in taking the loss for the Jaguars.
