FALCONER - It certainly has been a rollercoaster of a season for the Allegany-Limestone baseball team.
Starting the season, the Gators dropped five straight, followed shortly after by a five-game win streak.
Unfortunately, A-L has once again hit a low, as the team dropped its sixth-straight, falling to CCAA Division I rival Falconer, 7-6, Thursday in a continuation of Wednesday’s rained out game
According to A-L coach Mark Stavish, what made the loss even more disheartening is that the Gators held a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. But, thanks to Joe Armeli’s bloop two-run single, Allegany-Limestone (6-12) suffered its fourth one-run loss of the season.
Armeli was on of five Falconer players with a single.
Falconer pitcher, Braden Streed struck out three and surrendered 11 hits in a complete-game effort for the win.
“This one was frustrating,” said Stavish. “We left there yesterday in the middle of the rain, down 5-0. We came back and jumped on them with five to tie it. Things were looking great. (Eric) Rockwood was getting in a groove and mowing them down.
“We made a misplay in the infield in the sixth inning that brought up the top of the order in the seventh which we proceeded to walk.
“The whole inning turned upside-down on us. Then Armeli blooped it over first base and that was the ballgame.”
Stavish continued, “We don’t have the flamethrower to blow it by people like in the past. The first inning they scored four ... and we walked four. Out of the five walks Eric had, four of them scored. Their pitcher who throws below average for varsity didn’t walk anybody. And we lose a one-run game because of it.”
For Allegany-Limestone, Rockwood (two hits, triple) took the loss while striking eight, walking eight, and scattering five hits. Tim Forsythe was 3-for-4. Kyle Roosa (triple) had two hits for the Gators.
NON-LEAGUE
Friendship 4, Hinsdale 2
HINSDALE - Friendship had managed just a single hit and a bunch of zeros in the scorebook the first six innings.
Then the seventh came around.
The Eagles loaded the bases with a walk, double and a single before Kevin Greene turned what appeared to be a shutout loss into a 4-2 win with a dramatic grand slam.
“It was just a well-hit ball,” said Hinsdale coach Mark Crino.
Bobcats pitcher Brandon Folland, who allowed just that single hit and no runs before the seventh, finished with 10 strikeouts while walking five.
Folland also added a double for Hinsdale, which fell to 9-3.
“I was pleased with the way Folland pitched,” Crino said. “We had a lot of young guys playing tonight, but they hung in there and played as hard as they could.”
Ridgway 7, Bradford 5
RIDGWAY, Pa. - Barry Wilson and Joe Chittester each smacked solo home runs while Jerico Weitzel finished 2-for-3 with a two-run triple to spark Ridgway.
Mike Miraglia went the distance, striking out eight while scattering seven hits, to earn the win.
Ryan LaBrozzi went 2-for-3 with a RBI single and RBI double for Bradford.
Cory Viola finished 2-for-4 with a RBI double while Lou Jones and Taylor O’Brien (2-for-2) also doubled for the Owls (6-13).
Bolivar-Richburg 5, Canisteo-Greenwood 4
BOLIVAR - Nate Shively was 3-for-4 and drove in Justin Cowell with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel Bolivar-Richburg to its 10th-straight victory.
Shively also had two triple and two runs scored. Kameron Konert tripled for the Wolverines (14-2).
Zack Peters was 3-for-3 for Canisteo-Greenwood.
“It wasn’t our best game of the year,” said B-R coach Dustin Allen, “but, I give C-G credit. They came ready to play. In the bottom of the seventh we were able to put a guy on and drive him in.”
