RUSHFORD — A 49-year-old Angelica man was killed early this morning after a truck pulling a trailer of produce entered his lane on State Route 243.
Amity-based state police reported at around 5:52 a.m., a 2004 Ford F-250 pickup truck was travelling eastbound down a grade when the dual-axle trailer loaded with 10 pallets of watermelons it was towing began swaying to the side. The driver, who was not identified, overcorrected and brought his vehicle into the westbound lane, striking a 1999 Ford Escort sedan, driven by Tommy Coen Jr., of Angelica. Mr. Coen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver and his passenger were The operator and a passenger of the pickup were transported to Olean General Hospital with minor injuries where they were treated and released.
The accident is under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
