HINSDALE — Consider it a gift yielding a positive message from last year’s Hinsdale Central School senior class.
With the blessing of student council leaders, Kirk and Laura Smalley will bring their Stand for the Silent anti-bullying campaign to Hinsdale’s students Tuesday morning. And the Smalleys have a sad tale to tell.
Their son, Ty, was bullied ferociously for two years. He was suspended from school for retaliating against a bully just one time. Ty committed suicide on May 13, 2010 at just 11 years old.
The Smalleys then began standing for their late son and many other children who took their own lives after battling bullies — listed with small biographies on their website — by traveling around the country to spread the word.
